Ep 1: Rosa Parks

EP 1
“Rosa Parks”

“I guess sitting in the back ain’t so bad after all!” exclaims a blossoming young talent, Zoe, while reciting her line from the last row of “Southeast Airline’s” new and improved luxury 757 aircraft. This airline is apparently preparing to launch a new campaign with this commercial that the company is currently filming, with the theme “Fly high class even with low cash”. We’re now on Zoe’s 15th take of this same “Sitting in the back” line and the flustered director still doesn’t “feel it” from her and nor do the 3 caucasian Southeast executives sitting behind him. In the back of the set we see a young hustling gentleman, who goes by the nickname Kid, known by the local production studios for his “extremely low” prices on cameras and computer goods. He quickly loses his focus and stops his mission towards his usual client. Standing there with his hands on his hips and a look of absolute disgust on his face, “This bitch is about to throw it all away for a couple free plane tickets?” he whispers to himself before contemplating throwing away his own relationship with the studio away by giving her a heads up as to what will happen to her career if those seemingly harmless 9 words make it to any TV screen in America. After a little deliberation and a deep breath he puts down his bag of possibly stolen goods and approaches the obviously nervous Zoe Kravitz, bypassing managers, agents and even the director himself as he completes the journey to both of their demise’s. After explaining that she “Got these white folk out here making her look like some 2020 Rosa Parks, all dressed up with that little gucci purse and cute little hairdo, but sitting in the back of the plane like you suppose to be happy because this plane leather softer than before. They are going to hang all of yall for this! But hey, what do I Know?” It is less than 10 seconds before Kid is forcefully dragged off of the premises but not before knocking down a couple production lights and taking one final free bagel off the snack cart. “Tell Mike I need my 200.00 this week…acting like that 50mm was a gift!!! Fuck wrong with yall.”

Kid quickly dusts himself off while cursing the air as he realizes he is probably no longer welcome at his highest paying customers studio anymore after his outburst. He lifts himself up off the ground and grabs his bag to continue his rounds only to realize everything inside is smashed to bits and is forced to conclude his day.

Later that evening Kid finds himself with Mickey and Keem, his older homies that also happen to be the big party promoters in the city. They are doing one last walk-through of the venue before the nights big NYE party in which they are expecting over 2000 people in attendance. We watch and listen to the duo talk through a mental checklist to make sure the firemashall is paid off, none of the sections have been paid for with fake credit cards, and last but not least, double checking with the owner to make sure that he paid the light bill for this month. After Mickey and Keem reach a certain level of comfort with the forthcoming event they finally give Kid the attention that he has been impatiently waiting for as he obviously wants to tell them something. Kid explains his day and how he got kicked out the studio but more importantly how he just watch Zoe Kravitz ruin her career and how he prays that she listened to him and didn’t speak those detrimental lines. The three of them all laugh together while briefly speaking on about how dumb these huge companies are that obviously don’t have any black people working at their company’s, meanwhile finding themselves in hot water after they fail while doing some ignorant black shit!

Anyway’s the night continues and the gang agrees to link back up at the club at 9pm where Kid will handle collecting money at the door per usual while Mickey does all the politicking, bargaining and selling of extra tables and bottles, Keem will keep an eye on the bar and the owner to make sure no funny business is going on. Around 8:15 Mickey gets a text from the valet guy saying that he just got to the club and the entire building is engulfed in flames with all the city’s firemen outside the club attempting to control the flame. Rather than ask any questions or dive into an uncontrollable situation Mickey tells Keem and they quickly starts trying to figure out where they will put the 2000 people that they are expecting to show up in the next 2 hours. After a few quick phone calls Keem finesses the owner of an old church which was under renovation to open its doors and let the guys have this party. The next problem to solve is how are the guys going to message this new location to the the city. Mickey calls the Valet attendant back for an update in which he is then told that the news is now there broadcasting live. Mickey comes up with a idea and after a 200.00 verbal agreement Gotti, the valet attendant, and the rest of his crew quickly start to make signs with black markers on the back of large poster board with the address to the new venue while standing behind the news anchor’s broadcast. Gotti even takes the opportunity to earn an extra 100.00 by stealing the microphone and yelling “Party moved to Bishop Long Baptist! Bishop Long Baptist!”. Meanwhile Keem is furious tryin to get the owner on the phone who of course is nowhere to be found. After pulling up to the enferno Keem is told by the prepaid fire marshall from earlier that “ After 15 years of experience do this shit, I can tell you one thing, this ain’t no accident”. (Spoiler alert: The venue owner was committing insurance fraud and burned his own building down to collect on the money)

The NYE party goes down at the new church but obviously with a bunch of pissed off patrons as the event was unorganized, vip tables turned to church altars, and the bar was only stocked with red wine. Nonetheless after a surprise performance from 21 Savage most of the crowd forgot about the mishaps.

A couple of weeks later into the new years, still depressed and back at “The house” we find the Mickey, Keem, and Kid along with two other unannounced characters, whom we will soon meet, sprawled across a variety of mismatched living room furniture either unemployed or with the entire city hating them. They are all casually watching television and just as Kid acts as he is about to leave for his home “the commercial” comes on. He goes crazy in anticipation alerting the rest of the guys in the house that this is the commercial he was talking about a few weeks ago. They all get up and patiently wait to see if she is going to blurt out that dumb ass line and ruin her career. She does! The room goes wild with painful laughter and unapologetic tears. They all take to twitter and instagram blasting the company and even Zoe for allowing this to go down. “I told yo ass @ZoeKravitz!” among 20 other tweets and post Kid sends out over the internet. He is not the only one as the entire “culture” has taken this moment to oust yet again another insensitive, ignorant company and an undeserving yet equally responsible celebrity!

During this entire digital meltdown Zoe is somewhere in Los Angeles curled up in the fetal position painfully searching and scrolling through her name as it burns alive on the world wide web. She stumbles on a familiar face from the set which turns out to be Kid. She quickly remembers and realizes he was the only one that tried to stop this from happening while even losing his job simply by being so passionate about his claim. Zoe swallows her pride while at an all time low and DM (Direct Messages) Kid “Can you talk? I need help”. With Kid fresh out of a job and Keem and Mickey without the ability to throw a party for a while they take Zoe up on her offer and plan to meet up with her in LA ASAP.
